Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine; Assistant Dean, Simulation Education; Program Director, Patient Safety Fellowship

Steven “Andy” Godwin, M.D., FACEP, is a professor and chair of emergency medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He serves as assistant dean for simulation education and director of the patient safety fellowship program.

Godwin was instrumental in the creation of the UF Center for Simulation Education and Safety, a 24,000 square-foot facility located on the UF Health Jacksonville campus. He also helped create the annual team-based simulation competition known as SimWars, which has been highlighted at national emergency medicine meetings and the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare.

The competition allows residents to take part in mock trauma scenarios they do not know about beforehand. The experiences give them exposure to the split-second decisions made regularly in an emergency room that could mean the difference between life and death for patients.
