UF Institutional Review Board Selects Fishe as Chair
Fishe begins July 1 as chair of the UF Institutional Review Board-01.
Jennifer N. Fishe, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, has accepted the position of chair of the University of Florida Institutional Review Board-01, or IRB-01, effective July 1, 2026.
The IRBs serve all the colleges of the university and are charged with reviewing medical and clinical research and protecting the rights and welfare of participants in clinical trials and other human subjects research studies. Fishe succeeds Peter Iafrate, PharmD, who served as IRB-01 chair since July 1, 1996.
“I’m very excited to serve as IRB-01 chair,” Fishe said. “Protecting the rights and welfare of persons participating in research is something I feel very passionate about. It’s an honor to work with the University of Florida community to ensure that our innovative research reflects the highest ethical standards.”
Fishe has served the University of Florida research community through her work in clinical research and human subjects protection since 2017. She brings extensive experience in medical research, regulatory compliance and collaboration with investigators to facilitate high-quality, ethically conducted research. Her leadership experience and commitment to protecting research participants will be invaluable in this role.
Fishe received her undergraduate degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from the University of Miami. She completed her residency in general pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and her fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Johns Hopkins University.
Fishe is currently an associate professor of emergency medicine and assistant dean for research affairs at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Her research focuses on pediatric prehospital care, particularly asthma treatment, and the use of data science to optimize emergency and prehospital care. Her work has been supported by funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and private foundations.
Congratulations to Dr. Fishe on her appointment.
