Honoring the legacy of Leon L. Haley Jr., MD
The UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville unveils portrait of former CEO and Dean.
Thursday, Nov. 21, was a day of celebration, reflection, and profound emotion as UF Health Jacksonville broke ground on the Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, Emergency and Trauma Center. Dr. Haley’s family joined University of Florida and UF Health leadership for the momentous occasion.

As part of the tribute, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville unveiled a commissioned portrait of Dr. Haley, presented to his family by Linda Edwards, MD, dean of the college, following the groundbreaking. The portrait will be displayed in the Office of Educational Affairs alongside former deans, serving as a lasting tribute to his impact as both CEO and dean.

The Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, Emergency and Trauma Center will expand the existing trauma facilities at UF Health Jacksonville by 35,000 square feet, significantly increasing capacity to provide lifesaving care to communities in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. This vital expansion reflects Dr. Haley’s vision and commitment to advancing health care, ensuring his legacy continues to touch countless lives.
