New chair of the Department of Radiology
Dheeraj R. Gopireddy, MBBS, MBA, MPH, has been named chair of the Department of Radiology.
After a nationwide search, Dheeraj R. Gopireddy (Dr. Reddy) MBBS, MBA, MPH, has been named chair of the Department of Radiology, effective October 1, 2024. Dr. Reddy is currently a professor of radiology and has been serving as interim chair of the Department of Radiology.
Dr. Reddy is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology with a fellowship in advanced MRI imaging. After completion of medical school from University of Health Sciences, India, Dr. Reddy pursued a master’s degree in public health, majoring in epidemiology and biostatistics. He then moved to Chicago where he completed his internal medicine and radiology residencies from John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. During his residency, he took on the role of chief resident and went on to pursue his fellowship along with an executive MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After completion of his fellowship, he moved back to Chicago and took on the leadership role of diagnostic radiology residency program director at Cook County Hospital. During this role he was instrumental in reforming the program and was awarded for his excellence in leadership for his contributions. Dr. Reddy later then decided to move into departmental administration and hospital leadership as he took on the role of clinical director for operations and quality at University of Arizona Tucson. During his tenure he was challenged with successfully integrating EMR and PACS systems across the enterprise.

Dr. Reddy was recruited into the role of associate chair of clinical operations at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville in 2019. Under his leadership the Department of Radiology has demonstrated significant growth and continuous expansion.
Dr. Reddy’s research interests include applications of advanced MRI imaging in oncology and the use of AI-Radiomics. He has published more than 60 articles and several abstracts and continues to support research grants. He is also the recipient of a young researcher/investigator award by the North American Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (NASCI). On the education front, Dr. Reddy is recognized nationally as the lead-teaching faculty for the Body MRI course at American College of Radiology Education Center. The Body MRI course has trained nearly 1,200 radiologists throughout the last several years.
Dr. Reddy’s vision for the Department of Radiology is to be a national leader in radiological imaging sciences and to be patient centric. The UF COMJ is privileged to have Dr. Reddy as the new chair and anticipates great department accomplishments as he assumes his new role.
