Women in Medicine and Science Conference focusing on faculty well-being
WIMS approaches third Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Conference in April.
On April 27, 2024, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville and Gainesville will kick off the third annual Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Conference. True to the WIMS mission, this creates an opportunity for women in medicine and science to make connections and gain necessary tools to advance. The theme, How to Be Well and Thrive in Academic Medicine, focuses on the importance of retention, well-being, leadership and achieving work-life integration.
Since 2021, the conference has seen significant growth and is now partnering with UF Health and the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville. Jennifer Hunt, MD, interim dean of the UF College of Medicine, is among the featured speakers and will present a talk titled, “Women are competent before they are confident.” There will also be a presentation from Nita Ahuja, MD, the chair of the department of surgery at Yale School of Medicine and chief of surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Additionally, the day will include breakout sessions, exhibits and more.
Madeline Joseph, MD, a professor of emergency medicine at the College of Medicine – Jacksonville, is proud of the evolution of WIMS and the space it provides for women leading in this arena.
“We are very excited for this year’s conference since we are partnering with the College of Medicine in Gainesville and opening the conference to our residents and fellows,” said Joseph. “We are also hoping that the conference will allow faculty and residents to network across departments, specialties and disciplines and cross campuses.”
As it expands, WIMS is now relocating the event from UF Health Jacksonville to the Doubletree on Jacksonville’s Riverfront.
