UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville hosts UF BREATHE Centers Social & Science Event
This event shows the collaboration of faculty through research across the University of Florida.
On Friday, Sept. 29, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville hosted the first Social & Science event on the Jacksonville campus.
The academic social event is put on by the University of Florida Breathing Research and Therapeutics Center, or UF BREATHE Center. Gordon Mitchell, PhD, is the director of the BREATHE Center. Social & Science allows center members and trainees the opportunity to hear from leaders in their respective fields in an informal setting.
Alicia Vose, PhD, an assistant professor in the department of neurology at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, led a demonstration on acute intermittent hypoxia. Attendees also participated in other live hands-on demonstrations focused on lung volume therapy and cough assist; volitional and reflexive cough testing, and videofluoroscopy viewing.
Special guest Dr. David Berlowitz, presented his research on “Cohorts, Care Models, Polysomnography, & Randomized Controlled Trials of Noninvasive Ventilation in ALS.” Berlowitz is a professor and chair of physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
