The percentage of female faculty members at the college has increased in recent years.

UF Health Jacksonville partial campus

Over the past three years, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville has seen a rise in the percentage of women who make up the college’s faculty and key leadership positions.

In the 2019-2020 academic year, the college employed 440 faculty members, and 187 of them, or 42.5%, were women. During 2018-2919, 174 of the 428 faculty members, or 41%, were women. The year before that, the numbers were 163 of 408, or 40%.

Looking further at the 2019-2020 figures, 140 women served as assistant professors, 31 as associate professors and 16 as professors. Four of the 16 clinical department chairs were women, and seven of the 15 senior leadership positions were held by women.

Compared with men, women continue to make up a smaller percentage of faculty members at higher ranks. This is a key area of focus as we continue to assess and identify potential barriers to the success of every woman in the academic medicine community.
